Million-rupee relief for plaintiffs on Ombudsman’s intervention

LAHORE: Punjab Ombudsman retired Major Azam Suleman Khan intervened to ensure reimbursement of Rs17 million to complaints from across the province by government departments including Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PISC), Punjab Workers Welfare Board (PWWB), municipal committee, highways, education, health and population welfare departments.

Similarly, the office intervened to reimburse Rs4 million to sugarcane farmers from Jhang as payment of their sugarcane crop which was lying pending.

Alongside, the department directed district accounts officer Khanewal to merge the premature increment amount of Rs1,330 in the monthly salaries of four different plaintiffs after their departmental promotions.

The board of studies of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Multan has agreed with the complaints of students in the light of directions given by the ombudsman office on an application of one Asad Ali of Multan district and has given five additional marks to all the students of law colleges who took the paper of Islamic Studies in 2021. This benefitted hundreds of students.

In a separate development, the office mediated with concerned departments to recruit three applicants — Mohammad Waleed, Zaheer-Uddin and Komal Mustafa of Rahim Yar Khan, Bhakar and Sheikhupura — under rule 17-A.

Similarly, the health department Rahim Yar Khan has also paid salary arrears to one Mohammad Waleed after the intervention of the ombudsman office.

The plaintiffs have thanked Khan for extending institutional support to get their legal rights.
