Saudi naval chief, Gen Bajwa discuss cooperation, region

RAWALPINDI: Vice Admiral Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Ghufaili, the commander of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces, called on Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa at GHQ Tuesday.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional security situation and cooperation in military and maritime domains were discussed, an Inter-Services Public Relations statement said.

Gen Bajwa reiterated that both countries share a history of cordial relations and a deep-rooted spirit of brotherhood which has transformed into an enduring partnership.

The security situation in Afghanistan and its bearing on regional peace and stability also came under discussion.

Al-Ghufaili appreciated Pakistan’s role in the Afghanistan situation, especially the assistance in successful evacuation operations and pledged to continue working with Pakistan for regional peace.

Both sides assured to further expand Pakistan-Saudi defence and security cooperation.

MEETING WITH PAKISTAN COUNTERPART:

Al-Ghufaili also called on his Pakistan counterpart, Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi, at Naval Headquarters, APP reported

He was received by Niazi upon arrival at the premises, said a Pakistan Navy media statement. A smart contingent of the Pakistan Navy presented a guard of honour to Al-Ghufaili.

He was then introduced to Principal Staff Officers at NHQ.

In his meeting with Niazi at his office, Al-Ghufaili discussed professional matters and bilateral naval collaborations.

Various avenues of cooperation between the two armies were focused on in the meeting. A briefing on the role and capabilities of the Pakistan Navy was also given to the visiting dignitary.

Niazi also highlighted the Pakistan Navy’s commitment and efforts for ensuring maritime security and stability in the region including its initiative of Regional Maritime Security Patrols (RMSP).

Al-Ghufaili appreciated and acknowledged the Pakistan Navy’s efforts and commitments in support of collaborative maritime security in the region.

Both the dignitaries agreed to further enhance mutual interaction in diverse fields of training, mutual visits and defence collaboration.

The visit is expected to strengthen the bilateral collaboration between the two navies.
