Government may provide lucrative perks, privileges to Justice (r) Azmat Saeed

The government is expected to offer a monthly salary of Rs1.5 million to the retired judge

ISLAMABAD: The government is all set to provide salary and allowance to Justice (r) Sheikh Azmat Saeed, equivalent to what he was drawing before his retirement as judge of the Supreme Court (SC).
According to sources, the upcoming meeting of the federal cabinet may take final decision in this regard as Law and Justice Division, in a summary, has sought cabinet’s approval for provision of salary and allowance to Justice (r) Saeed, equivalent to what he was drawing before his retirement as judge of SC during the tenure of the Commission.
Sources said that Prime Minister Imran Khan, being in-charge of the Cabinet Division, has already given his go ahead to place the summary before the federal cabinet.
It is also learnt from the sources that head of Commission of Inquiry, Justice (r) Saeed had earlier expressed his inability to offer his services without salary and allowance and it is expected that the government will offer around Rs 1.5 million per month to the Justice (r) Saeed as his wage for his services.
Though the Commission of Inquiry was mandated to submit final report within six weeks, yet this commission will take more time to finalise the report and submit it before the government, said sources.
Sources further informed that next meeting of the federal cabinet is scheduled to be held on March 9, 2021, and this meeting will take up 16 agenda items, including “Payment of salary and allowances to Member/Chairman, Commission of Inquiry on Broadsheet Award and other international cases”.
Earlier, a one-man Commission of inquiry on Broadsheet Award and other international cases, comprising of Justice (r) Saeed was constituted and notified on 29th January, 2021, under section 3 of the Pakistan Commission of Inquiry Act, 2017.
