PEMRA warns news channels against discussing sub-judice matters

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Tuesday once again issued advice to all news and current affairs satellite television channels to avoid unnecessary discussion on any sub-judice matter.

In a notification issued by PEMRA, it was stated that discussion on sub-judice matters not only amounted to contempt of court, but was also in sheer violation of PEMRA rules.

Earlier, the Supreme Court, in its decision on a suo motu case, had issued directives to PEMRA to ensure that coverage of sub-judice cases was done under its code of conduct.

In the notification issued Tuesday, PEMRA warned that in case of any violation, a strict action under relevant laws would be taken against the channel concerned.
