SC issues notices to media groups over salaries delay

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notices to several media groups over non-payment of salaries to the journalists and media workers.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar issued a notice to the federation on non-implementation of service structure and Seventh Wage Board Award.

The media groups whom notices were issued, included Nawa-i-Waqt, Khabrain, Bol TV, Geo News, Capital TV, Channel 7, Star Asia, ARY News, Daily Times, Channel 5 and Pak TV.

“(Media) organisations should pay the pending salaries of their employees,” the chief justice remarked.

The court also summoned complete record of journalists cases pending before the Labour Courts and Tribunals and adjourned further hearing till October 17.

The bench issued the directions while hearing a case about the outstanding salaries to reports/workers of print and electronic media groups.
