CJP orders probe into Gujar Khan incident

LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Sunday ordered a probe into the Gujar Khan incident in which a local land mafia had attacked a Christian family and also torched their house and a car.

On September 21, at least 12 suspects tortured the family of Bashir Masih, a retired sanitary worker of the Punjab Health Department, and set fire to their possessions in a bid to grab the property.

The apex court took notice after Implementation Minority Rights Forum (IMRF) Chairman Samuel Pyara appeared before Supreme Court Lahore Registry and filed an application regarding the incident.

Taking notice, the chief justice sought a detailed report from the Punjab government and Inspector General Punjab Police Arif Nawaz Khan.

The court also ordered Additional Inspector General of Police (Legal), Abdul Rab, to investigate the incident thoroughly. The chief justice said that the provincial government will compensate the affected family after police submit its report on the incident.

The case was adjourned till next Saturday.
