The issue of an alarming increase in the kidnapping of children in Karachi was raised by the opposition parties in the Sindh Assembly as they questioned the performance of the police.
Moreover, the opposition also stated that the police failed to provide any relief to the victim families.
According to a local media report, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan lawmaker Kanwar Naveed and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Haleem Adil Shaikh spoke on a point of order, where Naveed said that “the ratio of crime had increased disturbingly, as robberies and kidnapping of children has become a routine feature in the city”.
Following Naveed’s comments, PTI’s Shaikh stated that “police officers did not entertain families who lost their children to unknown kidnappers”.
He claimed that more than “100 children had been kidnapped in recent months”.
Responding to the points of order, provincial minister Nasir Shah of the Pakistan People’s Party said that “Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had taken notice of the reports of children’s kidnapping and the government was taking all-out measures to stop the occurrence of such incidents”.
