Constable Batool becomes first woman to join BDS in Rawalpindi: report

RAWALPINDI: senior superintendent of police (SSP) operations on Monday appointed Constable Athia Batool as the first woman to join bomb disposal squad (BDS) of Rawalpindi police, reported a local English newspaper.

The 27-year-old was transferred, soon after she expressed willingness to join the squad. She is the only woman in a seven-member team.

Ms Batool told media that she was inspired to become a bomb disposal expert after watching videos of Rafia Qaseem Baig, Pakistan’s first bomb disposal female officer, looking for signs of explosives. “At that time I decided to join the BDS,” she stated.
