One sentenced for life, seven acquitted in doctor’s abduction case: report

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday sentenced an accused to life for abducting a neurosurgeon who was later killed in a fire exchange between his abductors and police, reported a local daily English newspaper.

After hearing the case, the court found the quack, Ashok Kumar, guilty of abducting neurosurgeon, Dr. Aftab Qureshi, for ransom from Karachi in May 2012.

Later, the surgeon was killed in fire exchange after police raided the house of captor in Hyderabad to recover him.

Furthermore, the court acquitted seven co-accused-Azhar Ali, Hath Khan, Abdul Aziz, Irfan, Ghulam Ali, Imdad Ali, and Farooq Ahmed-over lack of evidence.
