Minister expresses sorrow over WHO regional director’s death

ISLAMABAD: National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Minister Saira Afzal Tarar on Wednesday expressed her sorrow over the death of World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director Dr Mahmoud Fikri, who passed away due to a cardiac arrest on Tuesday.

In her condolence message, the minister said that Dr Fikri’s death was a huge loss to the global health fraternity, adding that he was a great friend to Pakistan. Dr Fikri had visited Pakistan last week to join in leading one of the most successful regional committee meetings of World Health Organization, she said.

The minister said that Dr Fikri’s services to global health would always be remembered. She prayed that his soul found eternal peace in heaven and his loved ones could bear this immense loss with courage and fortitude.
