Met dept predicts rain spell during next week

The Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rains all over the country and has also warned that heavy rains could cause landslides in Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and mountainous areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The monsoon winds will enter upper areas of Pakistan starting Sunday and Monday, after which a new spell of rains will lash most areas of the country by mid next week.

The Met Department has predicted that from next Tuesday to Thursday, thundershowers could lash some areas of Southern Punjab, while heavy rains will pound some other areas of South Punjab. During the same period, thunder and heavy rains are expected to lash some areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA, and Gilgit Baltistan.

The heavy rains are feared to flood storm drains, nullahs, and low areas in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, DG Khan Division, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir.

The Met Department has directed all the relevant departments to remain alerted next week.

According to the spokesman of Met Department, rain cycle in Sindh and eastern Balochistan will continue from Friday to Sunday.

Meanwhile, light showers in various areas of Karachi has turned weather pleasant in Karachi where the maximum temperature is predicted at 32-33 degree centigrade and precipitation was recorded at 78 percent on Friday.

According to the Met Department, the weather in most of the plains regions of the country will remain hot and humid during the next 24 hours with rains expected in Gujranwala, Lahore, DG Khan, Malakand, Hazara, and Kalat Division.

Meanwhile, rains lashed various cities during the last twelve hours. Kot Addu received 69 millimetres, Sargodha 39 and Kasur received 18 millimetres of rain.

The temperature recorded in some of the major cities of the country this morning were: Islamabad 25 degree centigrade, Lahore and Muzaffarabad 23 degree, Karachi 29 degree, Peshawar 27 degree, Quetta 21 degree, Gilgit 19 degree, and Murree 18 degree centigrade.
