US President Barack Obama met with his national security team to discuss mutual interests with Pakistan and efforts to strengthen cooperation along the border with Afghanistan, the White House confirmed late Wednesday.
Obama’s national security team updated the president on Afghanistan, including the building of Afghan security forces, the country’s reconciliation process and the long-term strategic partnership plan between the US and Afghanistan, according to a statement released by the White House.
Obama also received an update on preparations for the upcoming National Atlantic Treaty Organizations (NATO) Summit in Chicago, aimed at defining the transition of security to Afghan-lead forces.
Meanwhile, NATO and Pakistani officials are holding meetings in Islamabad to improve relations along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border following U.S. air strikes that mistakenly targeted 24 Pakistani soldiers last year.
