The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday announced the postponement of by-polls for National Assembly and provincial assembly seats till February 25.

According to ECP sources, the voter list will be corrected before the by-elections take place.

The Supreme Court had earlier issued directions to the ECP to complete the process of electoral rolls till February 23 and ensure that bye-elections were held after removing fake votes.

The bye-elections were being held on seats vacated by former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi (NA- 148 Multan), Sardar Assef Ahmed Ali (NA-140 Kasur) of the PPP, former leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Makhdoom Javed Hashmi (NA-149), Jahangir Tareen (NA-195 Rahimyar Khan) and Nawabzada Muhammad Khan Hoti (NA-9 Mardan) had been postponed till February 25.
