Two AJK policemen hurt after firing during Rawalakot protest clash
Two AJK policemen were injured in Rawalakot after firing erupted during a clash between protesters and law-enforcement personnel. Police said armed groups linked to the banned JAAC had tried to forcibly enter the city.
MUZAFFARABAD: Two police officials were injured in Rawalakot after gunfire broke out when armed groups linked to the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) tried to force their way into the city on Monday, police said.
Police said officers had asked the demonstrators to stay peaceful and disperse, but the appeal was not accepted. The situation then turned violent when, police said, miscreants opened fire on law-enforcement personnel, wounding two AJK policemen.
A police spokesperson also accused handlers of the banned JAAC's social media accounts of spreading false narratives, saying they were twisting facts and circulating fabricated videos. The spokesperson urged the public not to pay attention to what was described as baseless and inflammatory material online.
Deputy Inspector General of Police for Poonch Region said the state would enforce the law and safeguard citizens' lives and property. He warned that action would be taken against anyone who took the law into their own hands, challenged the writ of the state or promoted violence.
