Karachi to rename Regal Chowk and speed up Rabiul Awwal civic works

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has announced that the city's historic Regal Chowk will be renamed "Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Chowk" as the administration steps up municipal preparations for Rabiul Awwal.

Chairing a high-level meeting on Monday, Wahab reviewed arrangements for the holy month and said a comprehensive plan had been prepared to resolve civic issues before the 12th of Rabiul Awwal. He described the month as one of deep spiritual importance for Muslims and said providing civic facilities during it was not only an administrative duty but also a matter of devotion.

The mayor said the arrangements would be strengthened further through consultation with religious scholars to improve organisation and public facilitation. Referring to Seerat-un-Nabi (PBUH), he said the life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) remained a complete code of conduct for humanity and urged citizens to express their love through practical adherence to his teachings.

Wahab also directed officials to open the Korangi No 5 flyover by August 15 and said tenders worth Rs2 billion had been issued to begin development works in all districts of the city.
