PTI steps up mobilisation for August 5 rally in Peshawar
PTI has started preparations for an August 5 rally in Peshawar, with worker meetings and publicity activity under way in the city. Party leader Zubair Ahmad Qureshi said the protest would remain peaceful and include a strike on Black Day.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has begun a wider mobilisation drive in Peshawar and other parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa ahead of a public rally planned for August 5 near the Peshawar Motorway Plaza.
Party meetings are under way in the provincial capital, while banners for the gathering have started appearing across the city. PTI leader Zubair Ahmad Qureshi said workers from other provinces would also join the event.
Qureshi described the rally as one of the biggest in the province's history and said August 5 would be observed as a "day of referendum". He added that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi would make an important announcement at the gathering about the party's future course of action.
He said PTI had intensified its contact campaign and had also started reaching out to the business community. Qureshi added that the party would observe August 5 as a Black Day and hold a strike, while insisting the protest would remain peaceful and that workers were ready to launch a movement for the release of the party's founding chairman.
