Most Americans say Iran war has been harder than expected, poll finds

WASHINGTON: Three out of four Americans believe the war with Iran has turned out to be more difficult than the United States administration expected, according to a CBS News/YouGov poll conducted from July 22 to 24.

The survey found that 76% of respondents described the conflict as “more challenging” than anticipated. Another 20% said events had unfolded as expected, while 4% believed the war had been easier than expected.

Public sentiment in the poll pointed to broad unease. It showed 58% feeling uncertain and 57% feeling frustrated over the conflict. Pessimism also outweighed optimism, with 36% saying they felt pessimistic compared with 19% who said they were optimistic.

The findings also suggested limited confidence in Washington’s position. Only 22% of respondents believed Iran currently held the advantage in the conflict, underscoring the unsettled public mood as the war continues.
