Security forces foil suicide attack on South Waziristan check post, kill four terrorists

RAWALPINDI: Security forces on Saturday thwarted a suicide attack on a check post in South Waziristan District, killing four terrorists, including a suicide bomber, and destroying an explosive-laden vehicle before it could reach the target, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

According to the military's media wing, terrorists belonging to what it described as the Indian-sponsored "Fitna Al Khwarij" attempted to storm the security forces' check post on July 25.

The attack was foiled after security personnel detected the threat and responded swiftly, engaging and destroying the explosive-laden vehicle outside the perimeter of the post. The suicide bomber inside the vehicle was killed in the blast, while no damage was caused to the security installation.

The ISPR said the remaining three attackers attempted to take refuge in a nearby compound after the failed assault. Security forces subsequently launched a deliberate clearance operation and killed all three terrorists with precision.

The military said the entire operation was carried out without any casualties on the security forces' side, attributing the success to the vigilance, courage and professionalism of the troops.

A sanitisation operation is under way in the area to eliminate any remaining terrorists, the ISPR added.

Reaffirming its commitment to counter-terrorism efforts, the military said operations under the national Azm-e-Istehkam campaign would continue at full pace to eliminate what it described as foreign-sponsored terrorism and its facilitators from the country.
