Iran warns UK over use of British bases in US strikes
Iran’s Foreign Ministry says the UK violated international law by allowing US attacks to launch from British bases. Tehran warns states that assist the strikes will face consequences and pledges to defend its sovereignty.
TEHRAN: Iran has condemned the United Kingdom for allowing the United States to use British bases and military facilities to launch attacks against the country, warning that states assisting the strikes will face consequences.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the UK’s decision violated the United Nations Charter and international law and could amount to participation in an act of aggression.
The ministry accused London of complicity in alleged war crimes by supporting US and Israeli military operations against Iran instead of condemning the attacks.
It also referred to Britain’s historical role in Iran, including its involvement in the 1953 coup that removed then-prime minister Mohammad Mosaddegh.
Tehran said it would defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning that any country providing assistance for attacks against Iran would bear responsibility for its actions.
