Six IEDs defused, 14 suspects arrested in Bannu operation
A joint operation in Bannu’s Miryan tehsil led to the defusing of six IEDs and the arrest of 14 suspects, police said. Road closures, communication outages and food shortages also disrupted daily life in the district.
BANNU: Police and other law-enforcement agencies defused six improvised explosive devices and detained 14 suspected individuals during a search and combing operation in different parts of Miryan tehsil in Bannu, according to a press release issued by Bannu police.
The statement said personnel from police, the Elite Force, the Quick Response Force, the bomb disposal unit and the Counter-Terrorism Department took part in the operation. Two Kalashnikovs, one repeater shotgun, four rifles, ammunition and eight motorcycles were seized.
According to the police release, bomb disposal unit experts neutralised six IEDs containing 120 kilogrammes of explosives in the Mambati Barakzai and Khanikhel areas.
Impact on residents
The operation continued to affect daily life across the district, with residents largely staying indoors amid tightened security arrangements. The closure of major roads, including Bannu Police Lines Road, Predy Gate Road and Miranshah Road, caused traffic congestion in the city and added to uncertainty for the public.
Markets remained partly open, but commercial activity was hit by security concerns and disruption to movement. Suspension of internet and mobile phone services also affected business, education and official work.
Residents were also facing shortages of essential food items, creating additional hardship for many families. Ration packages for around 600 stranded families were arranged and handed over to security forces for distribution once the security situation improves.
