Mob attacks Indian Army's Assam Rifles camp, torches military vehicles in Manipur

IMPHAL: A massive mob clashed with Indian forces and attacked an Assam Rifles camp in the violence-hit BJP-ruled state of Manipur, torching military vehicles and vandalizing the camp.

The violence erupted after Indian forces, including the Assam Rifles and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), resorted to brute force against local residents during a cordon-and-search operation in Makuilongdi and Oklong villages.

Several residents were beaten and injured after they attempted to resist the operation, triggering widespread anger among locals.

The agitated mob later marched to the Assam Rifles camp in Senapati district, where clashes broke out. During the confrontation, the camp was vandalised and several military vehicles were set on fire.

One Indian Army vehicle was completely charred, another light vehicle was set ablaze, while two military trucks were overturned and damaged. A civilian vehicle was also reportedly set on fire during the clashes.

The incident is the latest in a series of violent confrontations in Manipur, where unrest has persisted for more than two years despite deployment of Indian forces.

Social media influencers booked over anti-BJP minister's campaign

Nagpur Cyber Police have registered an FIR against multiple social media content creators for allegedly running a digital campaign targeting BJP leader and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.

The legal action stems from online posts criticising the government’s ethanol-blended fuel policy. Nagpur Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy said an offence was registered based on a complaint received.

“The FIR details the names of the individuals involved and the nature of the posts, as well as the obscene or abusive comments made by certain people. The police are currently investigating the matter,” he said.

The complaint was filed by Shishir Arun Tripathi, convener of BJP Nagpur City Social Media Cell. It alleged that a YouTube video uploaded on July 3 by content creator Manish Kashyap contained “false, defamatory and misleading statements” regarding Gadkari and ethanol fuel.
