PM hails MWL's role in promoting Muslim unity, regional peace

 ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday stressed the vital role of the Muslim World League (MWL) in promoting religious dialogue, moderation and unity across the Muslim world, saying its efforts were crucial in addressing the pressing challenges confronting Muslim countries, including the evolving regional situation involving Iran and the brotherly Gulf states, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the broader issues facing Muslim communities worldwide.

The prime minister expressed these views during a meeting with Muslim World League Secretary General Sheikh Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, who called on him at the Prime Minister House to discuss matters of mutual interest, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Members of the National Assembly Farah Naz Akbar and Zeb Jaffar, and Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch also attended the meeting.

Dr. Al-Issa was accompanied by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan, Nawaf Saeed Al Malky.

Welcoming the MWL secretary general, Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked him for participating in the OIC Ministerial Conference on Women, held in Islamabad on July 12-13.

The prime minister highly appreciated the Muslim World League's invaluable contributions to projecting the true and moderate image of Islam, fostering unity among the Muslim Ummah and promoting the universal message of tolerance, fraternity and interfaith harmony across the globe.

He also commended Dr. Al-Issa's personal leadership in expanding the League's global outreach and reaffirmed Pakistan's continued support for the organisation's initiatives.

Recalling Dr. Al-Issa's previous visits to Pakistan, the prime minister acknowledged his significant contributions, including hosting the International Summit on Girls' Education in Islamabad. He expressed satisfaction over the continued collaboration between Pakistan and the MWL in promoting education, interfaith dialogue and efforts to counter extremism and Islamophobia.

Prime Minister Shehbaz conveyed his respectful regards to The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and extended his warm good wishes to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Dr. Al-Issa thanked the prime minister for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation and praised Pakistan's leadership role within the Muslim world.

He reaffirmed the Muslim World League's commitment to further strengthening cooperation with Pakistan in the fields of religion, education and humanitarian affairs.

Appreciating the prime minister's leadership in recent regional peace efforts, Dr. Al-Issa also paid tribute to the contributions of Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their untiring efforts and invaluable role in the successful signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked the MWL secretary general for his visit and both sides agreed to maintain close coordination on shared priorities, including the early completion of ongoing joint projects and initiatives between Pakistan and the Muslim World League.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he and Sheikh Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa had reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing education, interfaith harmony and unity across the Muslim Ummah.

In a post on X, the prime minister wrote: "It was a pleasure to welcome Sheikh Dr Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary General of the Muslim World League, to Islamabad."

He said he congratulated Dr. Al-Issa on being conferred an Honorary Doctorate in recognition of his exceptional services to the Muslim Ummah and his steadfast efforts to promote the true values of Islam—peace, compassion, tolerance and coexistence.

The prime minister also thanked the MWL chief for his generous appreciation of Pakistan's recent regional peace efforts, including the contributions of Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir towards the successful conclusion of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
