LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat to personally teach one class at a government school every week as part of efforts to improve the quality of education and strengthen accountability.
The directive was issued during a meeting on education reforms, where the chief minister also ordered a review of the digital registration system for private schools and sought proposals for the registration and digital mapping of tuition centres across the province.
Officials informed the meeting that the Punjab government had enrolled 4.3 million students in public schools over the past two years and four months.
Maryam Nawaz also directed that teachers working under the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) be paid through digital banking channels. Authorities said bank accounts would be opened for around 138,000 teachers to ensure transparent and timely salary payments.
The meeting also reviewed progress under the Punjab School Reforms Programme, with the chief minister instructing officials to prepare a comprehensive plan for innovative revenue generation to further strengthen the education sector.
