ATC adjourns Aleema protest case after prosecution objects to defence witness

RAWALPINDI: A special anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi on Tuesday put off proceedings in the November 26 protest case against Aleema Khan until July 9 after the prosecution disputed the legal standing of a defence witness she sought to present.

The case was registered at Sadiqabad Police Station and came up before the court with Aleema’s counsel Faisal Malik and Senior Prosecutor Zaheer Shah in attendance.

During the hearing, the court allowed Aleema Khan’s request to produce Fatehullah Burki as a defence witness. The move was then challenged by the prosecution, which cited a Lahore High Court (LHC) precedent in contesting the witness’s status.

Following the objection, the court adjourned the matter until July 9. The report did not provide further details about the nature of the prosecution’s challenge or the substance of the witness’s proposed testimony.
