Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains a major theatre of the country’s counterterrorism campaign, with security forces regularly carrying out operations against militants. The province saw a marked increase in militant violence last year, with more than 500 attacks recorded, a 50pc rise from the previous year.

Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Lakki Marwat, Hangu and Peshawar were among the districts hardest hit by militant violence, with a pattern of attacks allegedly planned and launched from across the Afghan border.
The CTD report also recorded a 56pc increase in attacks on police personnel, rising from 327 in 2024 to 510 in 2025.
