Trump says US and Iran are getting along well as indirect Doha talks begin
President Donald Trump said the US is getting along well with Iran as indirect talks began in Doha through mediators. He said denuclearisation discussions were moving positively, while Iran insisted no direct talks were taking place.

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Washington was making progress with Iran as indirect talks between the two sides got underway in Doha through mediators.
Speaking to reporters before departing on a trip, Trump said the discussions were advancing in a positive direction and described recent contacts as productive. He said Iran had moved significantly in its negotiations with the United States and repeated that Tehran must not acquire a nuclear weapon.
Trump told reporters:
“The denuclearisation of Iran is moving along well. They’ve had very good meetings, and we’ll see.”
He also said, “We hit them very hard last week. I think they’re fine,” and added: “It’s the denuclearisation of Iran, it’s very simple, and Iran can never have a nuclear weapon.”
Both the United States and Iran said they would send officials for discussions linked to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding aimed at ending the Middle East war. Iran, however, maintained that there would be no direct negotiations with Washington. A diplomat speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter confirmed that the negotiations were in progress.
