 ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed authorities to expedite the completion of Danish Schools across the country and announced the establishment of a technology (Tech) campus of Danish University in Muzaffarabad, describing the flagship education initiatives as a long-term investment in Pakistan's future and among the nation's most valuable assets.

Chairing a review meeting on the progress of Danish Schools and Danish University, the prime minister termed the institutions among the country's most important national assets and stressed the need to complete projects on schedule to provide quality education to students across Pakistan.

He directed the relevant authorities to ensure the early completion of Danish Schools in all four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Islamabad, the Prime Minister's Office Media Wing said in a press release.

The prime minister also instructed that the architectural design of each school should reflect the cultural heritage and identity of its respective region.

The meeting was attended by Ministers Azam Nazeer Tarar, Ahsan Iqbal, Attaullah Tarar, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and senior officials of the relevant departments.

Emphasising transparency, the prime minister said appointments of teaching faculty and other staff at both Danish Schools and Danish University must be made strictly on merit.

He also appreciated the Federal Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training for the pace of construction work on the Danish Schools project.

During the meeting, officials briefed the prime minister on the progress of 27 Danish Schools under construction in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Islamabad, as well as on the construction of Danish University in the federal capital.

According to the briefing, the Danish School in Kurri, Islamabad, has been completed and has already started academic activities, while construction of Danish Schools in Bagh, Bhimber, Sultanabad, Ghanche and Astore is in the final stages, with classes expected to commence in April 2027.

 PM orders faster welfare measures for overseas Pakistanis

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) to accelerate welfare initiatives and further improve services for overseas Pakistanis, describing them as a valuable national asset and acknowledging their vital contribution to the country's economy.

The directives were issued during a meeting with OPF Board of Governors Chairman Syed Qamar Raza and Managing Director Afzal Bhatti, according to a Prime Minister's Office news release.

The meeting reviewed the foundation's ongoing efforts to address issues faced by Pakistanis living abroad and discussed additional measures to strengthen welfare and facilitation services for the overseas community.

The prime minister said overseas Pakistanis were a precious national asset whose remittances played a vital role in strengthening the country's foreign exchange reserves.

He directed the OPF to further accelerate the implementation of ongoing welfare projects and ensure greater efficiency in delivering services to expatriate Pakistanis.

Expressing satisfaction over the foundation's performance, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed the OPF leadership to prepare and present a comprehensive plan for further improving its services and welfare programmes.

The meeting also included a briefing on a comprehensive roadmap aimed at introducing additional initiatives for the welfare and facilitation of overseas Pakistanis.

The OPF chairman and managing director also paid tribute to the prime minister for Pakistan's efforts to promote global peace.
