Pakistan seeks return of 97 prisoners who have completed sentences in Indian jails
Pakistan has urged India to free and repatriate 97 Pakistani prisoners who have completed their sentences. The request came as both countries exchanged updated prisoner lists under the 2008 consular access agreement.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has asked India to release and repatriate 97 Pakistani prisoners who have completed their sentences in Indian custody, according to a Foreign Office statement issued on Wednesday.
The Foreign Office said the prisoners include 64 civilians and 33 fishermen. It also urged India to ensure the safety, security and well-being of all prisoners who are Pakistani.
The statement was issued as Pakistan and India exchanged lists of prisoners held in each other’s custody under the 2008 Agreement on Consular Access. Under that arrangement, both countries share these lists twice a year, on January 1 and July 1.
According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan handed over a list of 250 Indian prisoners in Pakistan to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. The list includes 52 civilian prisoners and 198 fishermen. In return, India shared a list of 439 prisoners who were Pakistani or believed to be Pakistani, comprising 386 civilian prisoners and 53 fishermen.
