Lightning strikes kill two children and injure over 20 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR: Two children were killed and more than 20 people injured in separate lightning strike incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, according to officials.

In Khyber district, lightning hit a house in the Zakhak Hail Bazaar area of Landi Kotal in the morning. Assistant Sub-Inspector Azmat Wali of Landi Kotal Police Station said two children died and two others were injured. He said the house was also damaged and all those hurt were from the same family.

Residents carried out initial rescue efforts and moved the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment. One of the injured was in critical condition. Police and other authorities were assessing the damage and collecting further details, while condolences were being offered to the bereaved family.

In a separate incident in Upper Dir, lightning struck a women’s seminary in the Wahri area during classes, injuring 20 female students. Wahri Assistant Commissioner Aftab Alam said around 250 girls were enrolled at the seminary. He said all injured students were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Wahri for treatment and were reported to be out of danger.
