WhatsApp rolls out usernames feature with simple setup process

WhatsApp has introduced usernames, allowing users to connect without sharing their phone numbers.

The new feature lets users create a unique username that can be used to identify and contact them on the platform, offering an additional layer of privacy.

To set up a username:

  • Open WhatsApp and go to Settings.

  • Tap your profile and select the Username option.

  • Enter a unique username that meets the platform's requirements and save the changes once it is available.

Once a username is created, other users will be able to find and contact the account using the username instead of a phone number where the feature is supported.

WhatsApp said usernames must be unique and comply with its naming guidelines. If a preferred username is already taken or does not meet the requirements, users will be prompted to choose another one.

The feature is being rolled out gradually, so it may not be immediately available to all users. Those who do not yet see the option will receive it through a future app update.
