Religious leaders hold Muharram solidarity breakfast

LAHORE: Religious figures from different faiths and schools of thought came together at Nolakha Presbyterian Church for a Muharram solidarity breakfast organised to encourage peace, religious tolerance, mutual respect and interfaith harmony during the holy month.

Speaking at the gathering, host Dr Majeed Abel said Muharram conveys lessons of patience, sacrifice, compassion and humanity. He said the participation of representatives from various faith communities in an event focused on peace and brotherhood showed a shared commitment among Pakistanis to live together with mutual respect and harmony. He also said preserving peace during Muharram is a collective responsibility.

Archbishop Dr Azad Marshall and Father James Channan underscored the need for interfaith dialogue and joint efforts to build trust, respect and understanding among followers of different religions. Their remarks focused on cooperation across communities as a means to strengthen harmony during the month.

Maulana Asim Makhdoom and Mufti Ashiq Hussain said Muharram carries a universal message of truth, justice and steadfastness, and called on people from all schools of thought to foster unity, patience and brotherhood. Professor Sohail Ahmed also said that religious scholars, faith leaders and social organisations have an important role in advancing interfaith harmony.
