New WhatsApp feature will change how you send private messages
WhatsApp is testing a view-once option for regular text messages, allowing a one-time read before the message disappears. Reports say copying, forwarding, saving, and sharing won’t work, with screenshots blocked.

WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that could change how people send private messages forever — and it’s exactly what it sounds like.
The platform is working on a “view-once” option for text messages, allowing users to send a message that can only be opened a single time before it disappears completely from the chat.
Until now, WhatsApp’s view-once feature was limited to photos and videos. But now, the company is extending the idea to regular text messages as well.
The feature has reportedly been tested on Android first and is now being trialled for iOS users too.
According to reports, users may be able to activate it by long-pressing the Send button, where an option will appear to send the message as “view once.”
Once opened, the message disappears — and unlike normal chats, it cannot be accessed again.
Even more strict: recipients will reportedly not be able to copy, forward, save, or share the text. WhatsApp is also expected to block screenshots and screen recordings for these messages.
The feature is designed for both individual chats and group conversations, but it will not be available on WhatsApp Channels.
It is still in internal testing and has not been rolled out to public beta users yet.
This is also different from WhatsApp’s disappearing messages feature. In that system, messages remain visible until a set time expires. But with “view once” text, the message is gone immediately after being opened once.
If released publicly, the feature could significantly change how users handle sensitive conversations — or simply how cautious people need to be about what they send in the first place.
Because once it’s read… it’s gone.
