Ishaq Dar to attend R-4 foreign ministers’ meeting in Cairo on June 21

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will travel to Cairo on June 21 to attend the fourth meeting of the R-4 group, the Foreign Office said in a statement.

According to the FO, Dar will participate in the meeting at the invitation of Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr Badr Abdelatty. The grouping brings together the foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Pakistan.

The statement said the ministers will review regional developments and exchange views on matters related to peace, security, and stability. It added that, following earlier R-4 meetings, they will also consider steps to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

During the visit, Dar is also scheduled to hold bilateral consultations with Abdelatty and call on Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the FO said. It said those discussions will focus on strengthening Pakistan-Egypt cooperation in various fields and sharing views on regional and international developments of common interest.

The Foreign Office said Pakistan places significant importance on its ties with Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye. It added that the R-4 framework reflects the four countries’ common emphasis on consultation, cooperation, and coordinated efforts aimed at supporting regional peace and prosperity.

Previous meeting held in Islamabad

The FO statement noted that Dar had earlier hosted the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Egypt in Islamabad in March for a quadrilateral meeting focused on the Middle East crisis.

The Cairo meeting will be the fourth gathering under the R-4 format, according to the Foreign Office statement issued ahead of Dar’s visit.
