BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to carry forward the Party’s revolutionary traditions and strive for fresh achievements on the new journey of national rejuvenation and development.
Xi, who is also General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks in a reply letter to 102-year-old veteran Party member Zhang Liansheng ahead of the 105th founding anniversary of the CPC, which will be observed on July 1.
In his message, President Xi extended heartfelt greetings to Zhang as well as to veteran Party members and comrades across the country, paying tribute to their lifelong dedication and service to the Party and the nation.
Xi praised Zhang’s distinguished contributions during the War of Liberation, recalling that he served as a radio operator with the “Fourth Brigade,” a Xinhua working team that accompanied the CPC Central Committee and Chairman Mao Zedong in northern Shaanxi during the revolutionary struggle.
The Chinese leader noted that Zhang had followed the Party Central Committee through the hardships of war, devoted his entire life to communications technology, and continued to show concern for the Party and the country despite his advanced age.
“I would like to express my respect to you,” Xi wrote, commending Zhang’s unwavering faith in the Party and his profound devotion to its cause.
Highlighting the significance of veteran Party members as role models, Xi urged all CPC members to remain true to the Party’s founding mission, uphold their original aspirations, and carry forward the spirit of dedication and responsibility that has guided generations of Chinese revolutionaries.
He emphasized that Party members in the new era should faithfully perform their duties, work diligently, shoulder responsibilities with courage, and contribute actively to the country's modernization drive and national rejuvenation.
Xi’s message comes as China prepares to celebrate the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, a milestone that reflects the Party’s central role in the country's development and transformation.
The “Fourth Brigade,” in which Zhang served during the revolutionary period, was responsible for news reporting and liaison work, ensuring communication between the CPC leadership and various fronts during the war years.
Observers view Xi’s remarks as a reaffirmation of the Party’s emphasis on preserving its revolutionary heritage while mobilizing members to contribute to China’s long-term development goals and modernization agenda.
