Teenager shot dead after resisting robbery

KARACHI: A 19-year-old man was shot dead in Abdullah Goth, Shah Latif Town, after he tried to resist a robbery on Wednesday morning, police said.

Police said three armed men riding a motorcycle stopped three pedestrians who were on their way to work and took their mobile phones at gunpoint. The victim was identified as Syed Muhammad Rizwan.

According to police, Rizwan was killed when he confronted the robbers during the incident. His brother, Sultan, told police that he, Rizwan and their brother-in-law were walking together when the suspects snatched their phones. He said Rizwan then threw stones at the fleeing robbers, who responded by opening fire before escaping.

Rizwan’s family told police that their ancestral home was in Bahawalpur. With this killing, the number of citizens slain in Karachi this year while resisting street crime has risen to 39, according to police.
