CJP asks KP civil judges to help strengthen trust in justice system

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi on Tuesday urged civil judges to contribute to rebuilding public confidence in the justice system, as he underscored the need for professional competence, integrity and fairness in the administration of justice.

The remarks came during a meeting at the Supreme Court with a delegation of civil judges from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who are undergoing in-service pre-promotion training at the Federal Judicial Academy under the Professional Exchange Programme. The visit took place as part of the judges’ study tour.

The meeting was also attended by the director general of the Federal Judicial Academy, the director of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy, the director general (reforms) of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and the secretary of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan.

Focus on training and judicial standards

During an interactive session, the chief justice spoke about the changing nature of judicial duties and stressed the importance of continuing professional development for judicial officers. He said training programmes run by judicial academies were important for improving judicial capacity, encouraging consistency in decisions and reinforcing public trust in the justice system.

He also said that the delivery of justice required more than legal knowledge alone, highlighting the importance of integrity, impartiality and judicial temperament. The chief justice noted that judicial officers should remain conscious of their constitutional obligations and work to ensure that justice is dispensed fairly, promptly and in accordance with the law.

He further encouraged the participants to maintain high standards of professionalism, independence and ethical conduct, while noting that the credibility and effectiveness of the justice system depended greatly on the competence, integrity and dedication of judicial officers.

Study tour concludes with Q&A session

The visit concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session. Souvenirs were also exchanged at the end of the meeting as a gesture of institutional goodwill.
