Passerby killed, three policemen injured in Kurram checkpost attack

KURRAM: A passerby was killed and three policemen were injured when unidentified attackers opened fire on a police checkpost in the Mirbagh area of Central Kurram on Sunday, according to police sources.

Police sources said the assailants used automatic and heavy weapons in the attack, targeting the checkpost and causing casualties at the scene. The passerby was killed on the spot, while three police personnel suffered injuries.

Following the assault, police launched an operation to trace those involved, the sources said. They added that security forces also fired artillery at suspected militant hideouts shortly after the attack.

Police sources said announcements were later made from local mosques, after which residents came out carrying white flags and began efforts to help secure a ceasefire.
