LPG prices jump in Peshawar as gas shortage drives demand

PESHAWAR: Liquefied petroleum gas prices in Peshawar have climbed sharply as households shift to cylinders amid low pressure and repeated disruption in piped gas supply, creating hardship for residents across the city.

The retail price of LPG has risen from Rs400 to Rs550 per kilogram, while the government rate remains fixed at Rs300 per kg. The increase has come as many homes, faced with weak or unavailable Sui Gas supply, have turned to LPG for daily use, pushing up demand.

Traders were charging self-imposed rates and that prices varied from one locality to another. Residents expressed concern over the steep rise in the cost of the fuel, which has become an essential alternative for many families during the gas shortage.

After receiving public complaints, the district administration carried out inspections against overcharging LPG sellers. During the raids, officials found a number of shopkeepers had not displayed official price lists, while others were selling LPG above the notified rate. The administration arrested 67 LPG dealers and sealed 53 shops, while legal action was initiated against those accused of profiteering and violating official directives.
