FAISALABAD: The Environmental Protection Agency has supplied two anti-smog guns to Faisalabad in an effort aimed at improving air quality and limiting the effects of smog before the winter season.
The machines were formally inaugurated at the DC Office Complex by EPA Director General Imran Hamid Sheikh. The ceremony was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Anwar Ali, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Finance and Planning) Mudassar Mumtaz, Deputy Director EPA Muhammad Usman Azhar, Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Farooq Yousaf Sheikh, All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association Chairman Rao Akram, Waheed Khaliq Ramay, and members of the industrial and business community.
During the event, The University of Faisalabad and the Environmental Protection Agency signed a memorandum of understanding to support research related to smog prevention and control. Participants were also given a briefing on preventive and protective steps to address air pollution.
Speaking to the media, Imran Hamid Sheikh said the anti-smog guns had been sent to Faisalabad after they were used successfully in Lahore last year. He said the equipment releases a fine water mist at pollution hotspots, a process intended to suppress dust, dirt and suspended particles in the air and thereby reduce the severity of smog.
The EPA director general also reiterated the Punjab government’s stated commitment to providing a clean and healthy environment. He said all available resources were being used and that modern technology was being employed along with other preventive measures to tackle pollution.
