ISLAMABAD: The current wedding season in Rawalpindi, Islamabad and the wider Rawalpindi Division is set to end on Monday, June 15, before the start of Muharram, with business activity remaining well below normal levels.
Wedding-related trade was hit by record inflation, higher event costs and energy-saving schedules during the 20-day season. The overall expense of wedding functions and food increased by Rs0.5 million to Rs0.7 million, affecting demand for larger venues and formal arrangements.
Regular booking levels were not seen at the 7,943 marriage halls and marquees across the twin cities and Rawalpindi Division. Bookings at these venues fell by 45 to 48 per cent during the season. Many families instead chose smaller neighbourhood hotels or held wedding events under tents in streets rather than reserving large marquees.
This shift also affected associated businesses. Decorative setups prepared by major marriage halls, including lighting, flags, beautification and ornaments, were largely left unused as families opted for simpler events with ordinary lighting. The food catering sector also remained completely down during the season.
