RAWALPINDI: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held talks with General Metin Tokel, Commander of the Turkish Land Forces, at General Headquarters (GHQ) on Thursday, focusing on regional security developments and strengthening bilateral defence cooperation.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two military leaders discussed matters of mutual professional interest, the evolving regional security environment, and opportunities to further enhance defence collaboration between Pakistan and Türkiye.
Field Marshal Asim Munir highlighted the deep-rooted historical, cultural and strategic ties between the two brotherly nations and appreciated the longstanding defence partnership between their armed forces.
Upon his arrival at GHQ, General Tokel was presented with a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Army, reflecting the close military relationship between the two countries.
The visit underscored the commitment of both sides to expanding institutional linkages and strengthening military-to-military cooperation.
During his visit to Pakistan, General Tokel also called on Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad.
The two officials exchanged views on professional matters and discussed the regional maritime security environment, with particular emphasis on cooperation between the naval forces of both countries.
The Turkish commander also met Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu at Air Headquarters, where discussions focused on bilateral military cooperation and other issues of professional interest.
General Tokel lauded the professionalism, operational capabilities and contributions of Pakistan’s armed forces towards regional peace and stability.
He reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to further enhancing defence cooperation, military collaboration and institutional partnerships with Pakistan.
The visit follows a series of high-level military engagements by Pakistan’s top military leadership. Earlier this week, Field Marshal Asim Munir hosted Bahrain National Guard Commander General Shaikh Mohammad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa and Lebanese Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief General Rodolphe Haykal, with discussions focusing on regional security and expanding bilateral military cooperation.
