American photographer sparks viral storm in Pakistan over Pakistani political party name
Instagram photographer Morgan says she named her business after her initials (MQM) in 2015—then went viral when people linked the name to Pakistan’s Muttahida Qaumi Movement political party.

Instagram photographer Morgan thought she was being clever when she named her photography business after her own initials. Simple, personal, original. What could go wrong?
Quite a lot, as it turns out.
Morgan has gone viral after sharing a story about how an innocent business-name idea from her early career turned into an unexpected online talking point.
Recounting the moment, she says it was 2015 and her photography business was “booming,” with bookings coming in for families, babies, and seniors — work she describes as far removed from anything people online later associated the name with.
She explains that she initially chose the name based on her own initials, thinking it was simple and original. At the time, she didn’t think much of it and launched her page, quickly seeing “hundreds and hundreds of likes within days.”
But there was a pattern she didn’t immediately understand — a large portion of engagement appeared to be coming from one country, Pakistan, which she thought it was a bit strange but shrugged it off. After all, photography is universal, right?
The penny dropped when she told a friend the story and a guy nearby overheard. He stopped her mid-sentence: "Wait — what did you name your business?"
Turns out, Morgan's initials — MQM — also happen to be the name of one of Pakistan's most prominent and controversial political parties, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, long associated with intense and violent political activity and led by Altaf Hussain, who has since gone into self-exile and faces multiple legal cases in Pakistan.
People weren't admiring her portrait work. They thought they'd found the party's Instagram page.
Morgan, to her credit, takes the whole thing in stride. She ends the video laughing and casually mentioning she's since "found another hobby" — which, honestly, is probably for the best.
The internet, naturally, cannot get enough of it.
