ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to introduce a doorstep passport delivery service aimed at making the collection process easier, quicker and more convenient for citizens across the country.
The development was reviewed at a meeting in Islamabad chaired by Director General Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa, where officials examined progress on the designated digital application linked to the initiative. During the session, new standard operating procedures for passport delivery were finalised, marking a step forward in efforts to streamline services for applicants nationwide.
Reforms in passport system
The move follows a broader review of reforms in the passport issuance system on April 30 at a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State Talal Chaudhry. During that session, key measures intended to modernise the passport system were approved.
Officials told the meeting that the delivery time for normal passports had been reduced from 21 days to 14 days. The government also examined plans to further strengthen the doorstep passport delivery service, with particular focus on improving the efficiency of home delivery.
Cashless system and future plans
As part of the reform package, the government decided to introduce a fully cashless system at all passport offices within 15 days. The step is intended to end cash transactions, improve transparency and reduce dependence on middlemen, commonly known as the agent mafia.
Officials also reviewed progress on a proposed Business Passport category and discussed the creation of a dedicated Passport Authority to bolster institutional capacity and improve service delivery in the immigration system.
