Lahore: Pakistan Railways has widened its privatisation plan and decided to auction 15 passenger trains as it faces a deep financial crunch and continued operating losses.
According to the plan, the number of services being offered has been increased from an earlier list of 11 trains to 15. The open auction is scheduled for June 16 at the Railway Headquarters in Lahore, where a formal bidding session has also been arranged.
Pakistan Railways has already stopped advance ticket bookings for all 15 trains. The move comes ahead of the planned sale process.
After privatisation, ticket sales for these services will be managed by the companies that purchase the trains through station booking systems.
