LONDON: England captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson have been left out of the squad for next week’s second Test against New Zealand at the Oval after the England and Wales Cricket Board said they were unavailable for selection while an investigation continues.
The ECB said on Wednesday that the two players would not be considered for the Rothesay second Test, which begins at the Kia Oval on Wednesday, June 17. In Stokes’s absence, Joe Root will captain the side on an interim basis, while Jofra Archer of Sussex and Essex batter Jordan Cox have been brought into the squad.
