Katy Perry Makes Her Relationship With Justin Trudeau Official at Tribeca Concert Film Premiere

Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made their first formal public appearance as a couple at the Tribeca Festival in New York on Monday, attending the world premiere of Perry's new concert film, Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live From Paris. The singer, 41, left little ambiguity about the seriousness of the relationship during a post-screening Q&A, describing Trudeau as the anchor she had needed during one of the most turbulent periods of her life. "I'm a little bit like a rainbow kite — I fly super high — and sometimes I need to be grounded," she told the audience. "Having that anchor makes me feel whole."

The couple arrived hand-in-hand on the red carpet, with Perry in a white ruched ankle-length dress and Trudeau, 54, in a classic black suit. Throughout the evening the two were visibly at ease with each other — sharing laughs and appearing relaxed in the public spotlight for the first time as an official pair.

A Romance That Took Shape During a Difficult Year

Perry and Trudeau were first reported to have met in July 2025, when the two were seen dining together in Montreal shortly after Perry's split from actor Orlando Bloom — her former fiancé and the father of her five-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove — became public. They confirmed the relationship on social media in December 2025 and have since been photographed together at various events, including Coachella and a Netflix gathering in Montecito.

Perry spoke candidly at the Tribeca event about the personal toll of the past year. "Last year was one of the hardest of my life," she said. "Grief doesn't discriminate. There were days that were really, really hard, but I kept going because I made a promise to my fans, to my daughter, and to myself." She added that Daisy joined her on the road during the 91-date Lifetimes Tour for the first time, describing the experience as one she found particularly meaningful.

The Concert Film and What It Captures

The film documents Perry's performances at the Accor Arena in Paris and is, by her own description, a different kind of project to her 2012 documentary. Where that earlier film followed the arc of her personal life, the new release is intended primarily as a concert experience. "This is really for the fans," she told People magazine at the event. "They are the ones that have helped me along for all these years, over 18 years." The Lifetimes Tour sold over a million tickets in total and is reported to have grossed around $134 million.

A Blended Family Both Are Taking Seriously

Behind the scenes, sources say both Perry and Trudeau have been clear-eyed about the practical challenges the relationship brings. Trudeau has three children — Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 17, and Hadrien, 12 — from his marriage to Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, from whom he is separated. "The priority for both of them is stability for the kids," an insider told People. "They understood from the beginning that their lives were complicated and that it wouldn't be the easiest relationship logistically. The fact that they've been willing to do that says a lot about how serious they are about each other."

Monday evening marked a clear shift in how publicly the couple are now prepared to present their relationship. Whatever comes next, it appears both are committed to making it work on their own terms.
