PM Shehbaz urges restraint, calls for diplomatic solution to Middle East conflict

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday called on all parties involved in the Middle East conflict to exercise maximum restraint and give diplomacy a greater opportunity to succeed, stressing that peace remains within reach if efforts to resolve the crisis continue.

In a statement shared on his official X account, the prime minister expressed concern over the recent escalation of violence in the region, describing it as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by fragile ceasefires and the devastating consequences that renewed hostilities can bring.

He said Pakistan, together with its regional partners and friendly countries, was working earnestly and diligently to support efforts aimed at finding a peaceful diplomatic resolution to the conflict.

“The recent surge in violence in the Middle East is a stark reminder of the dangers associated with a tenuous ceasefire and the unbearable consequences it may lead to,” the prime minister stated.

Emphasising the importance of dialogue and engagement, he noted that diplomatic efforts had made significant progress and that the desired objective of peace appeared increasingly attainable.

“As we work earnestly and painstakingly, together with our brothers and partners, to find a peaceful diplomatic solution to the conflict, and especially when the final objective is just about to be achieved, we sincerely urge all sides to exercise restraint and give peace a little more chance,” he said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz underscored that continued commitment to diplomacy offered far greater prospects for success than a return to confrontation and violence.

He urged all stakeholders to remain committed to peaceful negotiations, saying that the path of dialogue and diplomacy provided the best opportunity for achieving lasting peace, regional stability and security.

The prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s support for efforts aimed at de-escalation and conflict resolution, stressing that peace, rather than destruction and warfare, must remain the shared objective of all parties involved.
