Hisense begins Pakistan operations through Airlink partnership

LAHORE: Global technology company Hisense has formally started operations in Pakistan under a partnership with Airlink Communication Limited, according to a statement issued on Saturday.

The launch ceremony took place at the Expo Centre Lahore and was attended by government officials, diplomats, business leaders and representatives of the industry.

Addressing the event, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan said the arrival of Hisense reflected Pakistan’s emergence beyond the role of a consumer market. He said the partnership between Hisense and Airlink offered a model of industrial cooperation that brings together international technology and domestic manufacturing capacity.

According to the statement, the collaboration is expected to support technology transfer, skills development and employment generation. Khan said the launch also underscored Pakistan’s shift towards production, innovation and industrial expansion.

Government backs local manufacturing

Khan referred to Airlink’s manufacturing facility in the Sundar Special Economic Zone, describing it as a driver of economic activity. He said locally assembled televisions and air conditioners manufactured in Pakistan help cut import dependence, save foreign exchange and create jobs for young people.

He also reiterated the government’s support for local manufacturing through what he described as progressive reforms. He said the National Industrial Policy and National Tariff Policy are intended to improve competitiveness, draw investment and provide a more predictable business environment for industry.

Khan also praised Airlink’s approach to inclusive growth, noting that the company employs more than 2,500 people, including a significant number of women.

Speaking about the broader significance of the development, Khan said the Hisense launch showed the country was moving away from an import-reliant model towards production-led growth.

"Pakistan is not merely a market; it is becoming a manufacturing hub," he stated.
