KARACHI: Residents in several parts of Karachi have called for an immediate end to unannounced load shedding as extended power outages continue to disrupt daily routines across the city.
Electricity cuts in a number of neighbourhoods have gone beyond 12 hours, creating difficulties for residents. Areas named as affected include Orangi Town, Korangi, Lyari, Mauripur and Lines Area, while people in Quaidabad, Malir, Manghopir, Keamari, Surjani Town and New Karachi also reported prolonged outages.
Residents in Soldier Bazaar, Hawksbay Road and Gulshan-e-Maymar said they were facing hardship because of the electricity suspensions. In Malir, Surjani Town and New Karachi, people complained of lengthy interruptions, while protests against load shedding were held in multiple areas, including Orangi Town.
Complaints were also reported from Orangi Town, Baldia Town and other localities, where residents said electricity had been unavailable for two to three days. The affected citizens demanded that unannounced load shedding be stopped without delay. Meanwhile, K-Electric denied conducting load shedding of more than 10 hours and said the outages were being carried out due to non-payment of electricity bills.
