DUBLIN: Pakistan were knocked out of the Ireland-hosted women’s T20I tri-series after their rain-affected match against West Indies was abandoned at Castle Avenue on Wednesday, leaving them at the bottom of the table.
The washout gave Pakistan two points from three matches. They can finish with a maximum of six points if they beat Ireland in their last fixture of the tri-series, which is scheduled to be played at the same venue on Thursday.
The abandoned game also kept Ireland in the race for the title. A win for the hosts over Pakistan in the upcoming match would take their tally to 12 points, putting them two ahead of West Indies.
Rain disrupts play in Dublin
Rain had already delayed the start of Wednesday’s fixture by 70 minutes. After efforts by the ground staff to get the field ready, West Indies captain Chinelle Henry won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Pakistan struggled to build momentum against a disciplined West Indies attack and had reached 111 for 7 in 16.5 overs when rain interrupted play again. That stoppage ultimately ended the contest, with no result possible.
Aliya Riaz top-scores for Pakistan
Aliya Riaz was Pakistan’s leading scorer with 24 runs off 23 balls, while captain Fatima Sana remained unbeaten on 21 from 21 deliveries. Rameen Shamim and Ayesha Zafar made 17 runs each, and Gull Feroza added 10.
For West Indies, Ashmini Munisar and Henry took two wickets apiece. Zaida James, Afy Fletcher and Qiana Joseph claimed one wicket each.
With the abandoned match ending Pakistan’s hopes in the competition, their final game against Ireland will now only affect the host side’s chances of securing the tri-series.
